On the Taiwanese version specifically, you're given an HR 5 weapon and regular starting armor to help you rank up. Every Zenith monster in the game had four levels, and the GR requirement of each level goes up by 200. Zenith content is unlocked starting at GR 200.
Coincidentally, you also unlock Switch Axe F and Tonfa at this same time.
It is unlocked after reaching G rank by repelling a Shantien. This is the be-all end-all of Frontier, you always want to be using this style.
